Urban Occult edited by Colin F Barnes
Published March 12, 2013 | By pablocheesecake
Behind urban life, weird and horrific things fester.
The whispers and chills of things long gone... the promise of power from the darkness... the seduction of those that lie in the shadows… the occult is all around us: in town houses, in mansions, and in your very own street.
Editor Colin F. Barnes collected together fifteen stories by a cast of critically acclaimed authors from around the globe who look into the stygian gloom, explore the dark corners of our houses, and peer into the abyss Read more [...]

The Eloquent Page 2012 Review
Published December 21, 2012 | By pablocheesecake
Another year is nearly done, and if this post has been published then it appears that those Mayan types were wrong (or we're now living on borrowed time. I can't decide which).
2012 has been a busy year here at The Eloquent Page. I've read over one hundred books and managed to attend three conventions. So, without any further ado here is my annual post covering my highlights of the year.
Book of the Month (January to December)
Jan - Hell Train by Christopher Fowler
Feb - Cyber Circus by Read more [...]

Technology Isn't Always Used With Good Intentions
Crime Net is a collection of stories that delve into the nefarious side of cyberpunk and tech-thriller fiction. In a modern society, filled with affordable technology and always-on networks, some electric dreams aren't always what we expect.
Featuring stories from four talented authors, we get inside the head of a man heading for rock-bottom until a too-good-to-be-true job opportunity comes his way; watch a devoted fan get a little too close Read more [...]

Trifecta: The City of Hell Chronicles edited by Colin F Barnes
Published June 24, 2012 | By pablocheesecake
At the tail end of last year I read the first release from new small publisher Anachron Press. City of Hell was a gruesomely gory anthology featuring giant bugs and some nasty, nasty body horror. Anachron has been at it again, and once more it's time for The Great Maurr to rise. Trifecta features three new stories set in the same world as its predecessor.
No Insects at Sea by James Everington
A young isolated man from a remote island community thinks he's safe from Maurr's deadly reach, Read more [...]

The Eloquent Page – 2011 in Review
Published December 15, 2011 | By pablocheesecake
2011 has been another great year for books. First off a few stats - I have managed to read eighty-two novels which works out at over six and a half books a month. After a swift and very rough calculation that works out at approximately 6,150000 words. Some were bad, some were good and some were even great. I thought it would be nice to round off this festive season with a little bit of review.
Firstly, my books of the month January - December 2011. There is a mixture of new releases and others Read more [...]

The City of Hell Chronicles Volume One edited by Colin F. Barnes
Published November 29, 2011 | By pablocheesecake
The Ant-headed God ‘The Great Maurr’ has ascended to rule the Earth and enslave the population. These are the chronicles of the last few survivors. Only three cities remain: Moscow, London and Hong Kong. All crumbling, dying versions of their former glory. The Great Maurr’s own City of Hell dominates most of North America. Its diabolical influence has turned ordinary citizens into torturers, debased slaves, lunatics and zealots.
Since I started The Eloquent Page, I have reviewed a couple Read more [...]
